Unsealed mesh materal allows water to pass through the cover, eliminating the need for a cover pump. The polyethylene material is constructed with a 10x10 scrim (threads per square inch). Covers with a higher scrim will have a better overall quality, strength, and durability. The material weighs 3.1 ounces per square yard which is important because heavier covers will be affected less by extreme elements. The cover has been treated to inhibit UV rays and blocks nearly all the sunlight that would otherwise enter the pool. This cover has an additional three foot overlap to ensure complete coverage of pools with top rails of up to six inches. A 1.5 inch marine-grade nylon binding boarders the entire cover providing enhanced protection from wear and tear. Pairs of aluminum grommets, placed every four feet around the perimiter of the cover, allow the included plastic-coated cable and locking ratchet to secure the cover around the pool.
